Website optimization is a term becoming more and more popular among webmasters and internet entrepreneurs around the entire world, being essential part of the search engine marketing. Today, the internet content is so wide and variable that any website needs to stand out from the average to be recognized and especially to make some profit. Let’s learn a few lines about what’s the meaning of website optimization.
It is difficult today to find a specific website in the ocean of content that the internet became over the last few years, and that’s why search engines are one of the most used internet tools. It is essential for a website to appear among the results of internet search engines, and even more important to appear in a good ranking position. Website optimization may be defined as a set of techniques and methods to improve the ranking of a website on the listings of some specific search engine, or search engines in general. As most search engines are based in keywords to determine the results of a search, the most typical method of website optimization is using such keywords on strategic positions. With this method, search engine robots (softwares that analyze the content of websites) would place the website in a good ranking position among the SERPs (Search Engine Results Page). Pay per click advertising or other forms of advertising are also common practices in website optimization.
However, specialists divide the website optimization into black hat SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and white hat SEO. White hat SEO refers to using methods not only approved but also encouraged by search engines, as improving quality of content and updating. Black hat SEO on the other hand, uses methods that may manipulate search rankings despite of the website content. There’s not a specific definition of “right or wrong” for such techniques as both groups aim to increase visits through website optimization methods.
